Tennessee Ernie Ford's Sixteen Tons, likely the best-known entry of all in this sub-genre, is aboard this time (The Platters' version is here too), along with cool gems by Elvis, Gene Vincent, Fabian, Bobby Darin, and Jo Ann Campbell. The R&B contingent is represented by hip numbers from Chuck Willis, Wynonie Harris, Ike Turner, Donnie Elbert, Dinah Washington, and two seductive themes by Ruth Brown. And there are plenty of obscurities to savor, including Eddie Banks' Sugar Diabetes, Bill Carter's Jailer Man, Merle Kilgore's Start All Over Again, and the gorgeous Barbara McNair's He's A King. Harmonica ace Sonny Boy Williamson (the second one) turns up at the end with his immortal Help Me, which became an instant blues standard. Prepare to snap along throughout this collection - hand cramps aren't an option!
