Description
Blues Porteño unites Pablo Ziegler's New Tango and jazz vision with Roberta Gambarini's vocals in a tribute to Buenos Aires and tango's roots.
Blues Porteño (Love Letters From Buenos Aires) unites Grammy Award-winning pianist Pablo Ziegler with acclaimed jazz vocalist Roberta Gambarini in a heartfelt celebration of Buenos Aires, tango, and the enduring relationship between New Tango and jazz. Having gained worldwide recognition as a member of Astor Piazzolla's revolutionary quintet, Ziegler developed his own distinctive musical language by blending tango, jazz, and classical influences into an expressive contemporary style. Rather than employing a traditional tango vocalist, he invited Gambarini to bring her improvisational freedom and jazz sensibility to these deeply personal compositions.
The album revisits important works from Ziegler's catalog while introducing new material and a fresh interpretation of Piazzolla's timeless 'Oblivion.' Throughout the recording, Buenos Aires serves as both inspiration and central character, while recurring references to milonga acknowledge the African roots that shaped tango's evolution. Singing in Spanish, English, and French, Gambarini moves effortlessly between lyrical storytelling and instrumental improvisation, creating performances that expand the expressive possibilities of tango canción within a jazz framework.
Joined by longtime collaborators Héctor Del Curto, Claudio Ragazzi, Pedro Giraudo, and Franco Pinna, Blues Porteño represents Ziegler's first album devoted entirely to Jazz Tango songs, honoring tradition while opening new artistic pathways through creativity, virtuosity, and emotional depth.
