Description
Blues Porteño unites Pablo Ziegler's New Tango and jazz vision with Roberta Gambarini's vocals in a tribute to Buenos Aires and tango's roots.
Blues Porteño (Love Letters From Buenos Aires) brings together acclaimed pianist Pablo Ziegler and internationally celebrated jazz vocalist Roberta Gambarini in a vibrant exploration of New Tango, jazz, and the enduring musical spirit of Buenos Aires. A former member of Astor Piazzolla's revolutionary quintet, Ziegler has spent decades developing his own musical language by blending tango, jazz, and classical influences into a distinctive contemporary style.
Rather than employing a traditional tango vocalist, Ziegler chose Gambarini for her improvisational artistry and jazz sensibility, allowing familiar tango traditions to evolve through fresh interpretation. Joined by longtime collaborators Hector Del Curto, Claudio Ragazzi, Pedro Giraudo, and Franco Pinna, the album revisits key compositions from Ziegler's catalog, introduces new works, and presents a new interpretation of Piazzolla's classic 'Oblivion.' Themes of Buenos Aires, tango canción, and the African-rooted milonga tradition weave throughout the recording, while Gambarini performs in Spanish, English, and French with expressive lyricism and remarkable vocal versatility.
As Ziegler's first album devoted entirely to Jazz Tango songs, Blues Porteño celebrates the continuing evolution of tango through creativity, tradition, and inspired collaboration, offering a heartfelt musical love letter to Buenos Aires and its enduring cultural legacy.
