Description
Also known as Pfau - Bin ich echt?, Peacock is Bernhard Wenger's sharply observed social satire about identity as performance. Matthias works for MyCompanion, offering himself for hire as whatever role a client desires: the perfect son, the enlightened boyfriend, even a 'pilot dad' for school appearances. Poised and convincing, he thrives professionally by embodying curated personas, yet as the boundaries between performance and authenticity blur, his private life begins to unravel and his own identity grows increasingly uncertain.
Led by Albrecht Schuch in an Austrian Film Award-winning performance, the film premiered in Critics' Week at the Venice Film Festival and went on to win Best Directorial Debut at the Stockholm Film Festival, the New Faces Award for Director, and the Audience Award at the Independent Film Festival of Boston. Additional honors include prizes at Les Arcs European Film Festival and nominations at Chicago, Hong Kong and Nashville film festivals, as well as a Bambi nomination for Schuch. The film was selected as the Official submission of Austria for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards in 2026.
Presented in German with 5.1 surround audio and subtitled in English, Peacock examines the commodification of intimacy and the cost of self-invention in contemporary society.
