Description
Swinging Swedish import PER DANIELSSON presents the epitome of Piano Jazz Trio music on âTIME WILL TELL.â Journeyman bassist Richard Drexler, who has played with Woody Herman, Jeff Berlin, Mel Torme and others, and master drummer Marty Morell, who has propelled the Mercer Ellington Big Band and subtly swung the Bill Evans Trio, adroitly aid Per in his quest for supreme musicality. The pianist presents surprising arrangements of standards, like âYesterday's Gardeniasâ (a bass-played melody), âHere's That Rainy Dayâ (as a jazz waltz), Dave Brubeck's âIn Your Own Sweet Wayâ (an up-tempo romp) and âOld Folksâ (medium swing). The originals are all memorable and tasty. While Per contributes most, the drummer furnishes an elegiac, gorgeous homage to his late boss, âSong For Bill,â and the bass player provides his lightly swinging âHeart Communion.â The trio's interplay and knowledge of their respective personalities is evident throughout. Appropriate, since all three are professors in the Jazz Studies Department at the University of Central Florida. Per Danielsson is a prime example of a jazz musician affected and inspired from afar by pianistic heroes like Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson. Thankfully, he has come stateside to share his own bountiful talents.
