Description
Easy because of the beauty and singability of the melodies but not easy to play precisely because of the skill and inspiration it requires.
“Quasimodo,” marked the recording debut of his new quintet, featuring Fabrizio Bosso on trumpet and flugelhorn, Francesco Nastro on piano, Pietro Ciancaglini on double bass and Pietro Iodice on drums. “Easy” is Condorelli's second work for Red Records and stems from the idea of tackling a modern repertoire of compositions other than standards. The unifying element of an album that seeks an “old but modern” sound is the simplicity of the melodic lines contrasted with energetic and widely varied rhythmic grooves. Wes Montgomery's “Full House,” Sam Jones' “Del Sasser,” Lee Morgan's “Search for a New Land,” Duke Pearson's “Bedouin,” not to mention Condorelli's original compositions, shine brightly and show how the artist's intentions have been fully realized. A special mention deserves “Y Todavia Yo la Quiero” by Joe Henderson, a song that particularly highlights Condorelli's solo qualities and of which an intimate and particularly inspired version is provided. An accomplished musician who looks at the music as a whole and whose real instrument, really, is the ensemble.
