After a violent storm kills island chief MacTavish, leadership of the small Scottish fishing clan passes to his kind-hearted daughter, Marget. Beloved by her people, Marget plans to marry Jamie Campbell, a young fisherman she deeply loves. Before their betrothal, Jamie learns a shocking secret: he is actually the long-lost son of an Earl and Countess. The Earl wants Jamie to leave behind his simple island life and pursue a noble future. Believing she would only hold him back, Marget sacrifices her own happiness and commands Jamie to leave the island. Heartbroken, Marget sets herself adrift at sea in an old boat, hoping never to return. When the villagers discover what she has done, they raise the alarm. Jamie rushes through the storm to save her, rescuing her just before the sea claims her life. The ordeal softens the Earl's heart, leading to reconciliation and the promise that Jamie and Marget can finally build their future together.
