'Inside the Island', the new album by Quadro Nuevo, is more than just a collection of pieces: it is a musical travelogue, born on the Greek island of Samos. There, where waves, light and sun shape the landscape, where old villages slumber in the hills and a kafenion remains the meeting place for locals, the four musicians have retreated to write music that smells of lemons, wild rosemary and the cheerful melancholy of the south.

Quadro Nuevo consists of Mulo Francel (tenor saxophone, clarinet, mandolin, whistle), Andreas Hinterseher (accordion, bandoneon, vibrandoneon), Didi Lowka (double bass) and guitarist Philipp Schiepek.

Quadro Nuevo's music is characterised by Mediterranean lightness: tango and French musette, Aegean myths, oriental grooves, Brazilian flavour and Neapolitan songs flow playfully into one another.
Inspired by an ancient Greek tradition, the musicians write little aphorisms that can be read in the booklet. They are about the courage to venture into the interior of the island, about feeling something unspeakable creeping into the songs at night by the sea of ancient stories. They tell of the preciousness of a companion with whom one explores the interior of the island, and of the smile of an almost deserted village that flashes like a ray of sunshine in the shady alleys.

'Inside the Island' is an album that takes its time - for the sound, for the silence, for the reverberation of the melodies. It invites you not only to walk along the coast, but to venture inland, where life is simple and expansive, archaic and full of stories. Quadro Nuevo has thus succeeded in creating a work that breathes the soul of the Aegean and takes the listener on a poetic journey. Into the heart of an island, into the heart of music that can give people's hopes and desires a home.
