Later, watching porn on a scratchy reel of 8mm film, projected onto a white sheet or a wall in a darkened room became the most profitable way of getting these films out to a wider audience. These movies were often advertised in the back pages of men's magazines as 'art films.' Possessing or selling these blue movies was still highly illegal and all the while the 'studios' producing them, who most often were a one-man band, involved in every aspect of production and distribution, faced prosecution by the Feds on many charges.
