Description
This is a masterpiece by veteran pianist R. Matthews, and from the very beginning, the music is very fast and furious.
This soloist fits into a classicism that has managed to keep itself always vital and which, thanks to intensive beauty care, has never shown wrinkles. From whom does Mathews descend? I mention in bulk Red Garland, Oscar Peterson, Tommy Flanagan, maybe even Bill Evans. This is only as far as physiognomy is concerned: the “sacred fire “is all his own. Egregiously supported by Ray Drummond, robust bassist and the inventive Kenny Washington, Ronnie Mathews shines a little everywhere: from Song For Leslie, reminiscent of the blues used by John Coltrane in his middle period, to I Should Care, which as you know is among the most beautiful ballads of all times.
