Everywhere stands out the metallic timbre of a sax without vibrato and ornaments, oriented toward direct and frank expression.

The starting point remains Sonny Rollins. But the full and generous sonority, the elegant and limpid phrasing now seem to tend toward classicism, with particularly happy outcomes in Strayhorn's Lush Life, Henderson's Inner Urgw0e, Parker's The Hymn. The great shadows of Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster loom large at certain moments, reminding finer palates of some memorable episodes of recordings with Lionel Hampton in the late 1930s. Alongside Nistico, Rita Marcotulli, Roberto Gatto and Marco Fratini make an impressive appearance.
