Description

Critically acclaimed pianist on intense, rhythmic, original, extremely tasty outing with powerful trio

Critically acclaimed Scott Routenberg is an award-winning composer and a jazz pianist whose exquisite touch and marvelous taste bring us the delightful music. Having written much of his most acclaimed music for large ensembles, Scott felt it was time to condense some of his ideas and convey them through the instrumentation of a jazz trio.

Joining him again are colleagues. Bassist Nick Tucker acquits himself admirable in executing his written parts and anchoring the group's rhythmic foundation when the drumming around him is extremely active. He also solos melodically with a glowing tone. Drummer Cassius Goens plays adventurously and often contributes continuously rolling figures that sputter and pop as a boiling cauldron of rhythms.

This album was inspired by his two children, who embody all the magical wonder of the universe - enjoy this impressionistic picture of youthful energy, inquisitiveness, love and beauty.

Dr. Scott Routenberg enjoys a versatile and prolific career as an award-winning composer, arranger, jazz pianist and orchestrator. In 2004, Scott was the first jazz songwriter to win the prestigiousJohn Lennon Songwriting Contest Maxell Song of the Year. Other awards and honors include the 2016 ASCAP Foundation/Symphonic Jazz Orchestra Commissioning Prize, the ASCAP David Rose Scholarship, Composer Scholar at the Henry Mancini Institute in Los Angeles, the ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Award, and the Downbeat Student Award for Best Extended Length Composition.

Routenberg has received multiple commissions as an arranger for the Grammy winning Metropole Orkest under Vince Mendoza, and has had orchestral premieres by the Atlanta, Houston, Indianapolis and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras, among many others.
