He has expanded trhe work of his Grandfather Magar Gaine and father Ram Sharon Nepali. Shyam has performed the centuries old Gandharba tradition of Nepal for over 30 years around the world. He has performed with world greats such as Dhrubesh Regmi, Pramod Upadhaya, Atul Gautam, Mones Singh, Madan Gropal, Frank Berende, Patti Smith and Tenzin Chogyal. His work has brought new directions to Sarangi, blending traditional folk of Nepal with other styles and new sounds. This music has graced stages of folk and world festivals across the globe and has received awards from the Nepali government, Massachusetts' Governor Citations and others
