As one of Germany's oldest orchestras, the Thuringian State Symphony Orchestra Gotha is the direct successor of the former Gotha Hofkapelle, of which Georg Anton Benda served as its 'Kapellmeister' for nearly thirty years. With an enthusiasm that is not to be overheard, the orchestra plays homage to its heritage on this CD in three works written by Benda specifically for the Gotha Hofkapelle.
