Description

Artists like Gil Scott-Heron, Mark Murphy and legions of rappers have recognized the power of the almighty Word. Some have been hip, some sung, some spoken, but none have the musical import an impact of TONY ADAMO's artistry. Tony has created a new genre: “HipSpokenWord.” His inventions are mostly spoken, though occasionally sung. And the words are extremely powerful and relevant. With the assistance of producer Mike Clark, renowned drummer, they have concocted a topical masterpiece in “MILES OF BLU.” Featuring Clark on all tracks, other gifted musicians include bassist Richie Goods, trumpeters Tim Ouimette and Derrick Gardner, percussionist Bill Summers, organist Delbert Bump, pianist Michael Wolff and Tower of Power's physician of funk, Stephen “Doc” Kupka. Adamo's hipster persona belies his intriguing background. He has been an actor, a DJ, a publicist, a voiceover artist, a rock singer and a Hollywood agent. During “Desert Storm,” he handled bombs for the U.S. Navy and Marines. After connecting with members of Tower of Power, he began to develop his unique contribution to culture, the hip/spoken/word style that is all his own. “MILES OF BLU” is the culmination of musical experimentation and execution. “JB” jumpstarts the album with a funky good time; then “Miles of Blu” comes out swinging with a ‘round midnight vibe; next stop, the Bay Area, as Adamo's roll-call of B-3 bombers tells it like it is on “Funkin' At The Chickn' Shack.” The topical “America R We Free” tells a potentially patriotic tale of a country divided, as “BBQ” becomes a real backyard rap. The crew launches some classic TOP with “Soul Vaccination” and stays in that groove with “Don't Change Horses.” This father of hip/spoken/word pays further homage to James Brown and Jack Kerouac (one of the original hipsters), then takes it way out with a nod to Sun-Ra. After asking “What Is Hip?” it is apparent that Tony Adamo knows the answer. “MILES OF BLU” shows us the way to truth.
