A Unique Story and a New Beginning -
Since its founding in 1999, TRIO IVOIRE has stood as a one-of-a-kind ensemble. Blending European jazz, West African tonal colours & the freedom of improvisation, the group has shaped a sound that transcends genres and continents. Pianist Hans Lüdemann, balafon master Aly Keita, and drummer Christian Thomé communicate through a musical language that needs no translation -- one built on contrast, curiosity, and connection.
The trio's enduring chemistry is as rare as their sound. For their 25th anniversary, TRIO IVOIRE presents a new program and album, Resurrection (INTUITION, October 2025) -- a work that celebrates both their shared history and an exciting new chapter.
The Beginning - Music as a Common Language: The story began in 1999, when Lüdemann met Keita in Abidjan during a Goethe-Institut tour through West Africa. Their immediate connection led to the formation of TRIO IVOIRE, joined by various drummers before Thomé became a permanent member in 2013. Their music bridges jazz, European classical traditions, and African polyrhythms, blending acoustic and electronic textures. It's not about preserving traditions, but transforming them -- creating music beyond clichés, full of rhythmic vitality, lyricism, and improvisational freedom.

Global Encounters & Collaborations: Over six albums, TRIO IVOIRE has collaborated with artists including Tata Dindin, Chiwoniso, Dobet Gnahoré, Ballaké Sissoko, and Rhani Krija, and with ensembles across Africa and Europe. Their previous album, Enchanted Forest (2020), expanded their sound with a vocal trio and additional instruments.

Resurrection - A Return and a Rebirth: Now, the trio returns to its original format, channeling 25 years of musical dialogue into a distilled, powerful form. Resurrection is not nostalgia but renewal -- a bold reawakening of the TRIO IVOIRE spirit.Even after a quarter century, their essence remains: music without words, yet full of stories understood everywhere.
