Description
Ulysses Owens Jr. and Generation Y return to Musora Studios to record an album of grunge classics transforming into high-level jazz on the fly.
The story of this album is one of creative redirection and the unpredictable power of a viral moment. It began when Ulysses Owens Jr., sat down at the Drumeo studios for a 'For the First Time' challenge, reimagining Nirvana's 'In Bloom' without ever having heard the original. The session's massive success amassing millions of views--prompted a follow-up where Owens brought his Generation Y to spontaneously cover 'Heart-Shaped Box,' cementing their reputation for transforming grunge into high-level jazz on the fly. While Owens initially planned to channel this momentum into a Big Band Nirvana project via Kickstarter, a pivotal call from Musora/Drumeo founder Jared Falk changed everything. Falk recognized that the true magic lay in the raw, nimble energy of the smaller Generation Y unit rather than a large orchestra. Now, after a high-energy West Coast tour and a headline gig in Vancouver, the band is returning to the Musora studios for an intense three-day recording sprint. With only three tracks planned, the rest of the album will be composed and captured entirely in the moment, making the record a literal 'live' document of a band discovering its own voice in real-time.
