Description
Ulysses Owens Jr. and Generation Y return to Musora Studios to record an album of grunge classics transforming into high-level jazz on the fly.
Kind Of Grunge finds drummer Ulysses Owens Jr. and Generation Y transforming the defining songs of the grunge era into adventurous modern jazz. Inspired by Owens' wildly successful Drumeo 'For The First Time' performances, which saw him reinterpret Nirvana songs without prior exposure, the project evolved into a full-length recording after Musora founder Jared Falk encouraged the ensemble to capture the spontaneous chemistry that had captivated millions of viewers online.
Recorded during an intensive three-day session at Musora Studios following a successful West Coast tour, the album embraces improvisation and creative discovery, with much of the music developing organically in the studio. Jazz-infused interpretations of classics by Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Hole, Mudhoney, and others showcase Generation Y's remarkable ability to transform iconic grunge anthems into sophisticated contemporary jazz performances while preserving the emotional intensity of the originals.
Presented as a deluxe double LP pressed on 180-gram black vinyl, Kind Of Grunge captures a unique moment of spontaneous musical creation, bridging two influential genres through imagination, virtuosity, and fearless collaboration.
