Simple without being cloying, indeed succeeding in being elegant, The Sound might even be the ideal record with which to introduce to jazz those who are totally unfamiliar with this music. Gennari would go on to record three more discs for Red (Melodies, 2009; Italian Songs, 2010; Blues, 2013), which, as the titles suggest, do not stray far from the favored tracks of ballads, especially of Italian provenance, and blues - in this regard, a handful of tracks from the last album, made with the participation of vibraphonist Daniele Di Gregorio, are worth noting, such as a lively Birk's Work or the very slow interpretation of Coltrane's originally frenetic Mr. P. C.
