Description

6-CD box (LP-size) with 160-page hardcover book, 182 tracks. Playing time approx. 513 mns

The most highly anticipated Western release of all time! Bear Family took more than 10 years to locate all the sources and restore the sound! The Sons Of The Pioneers invented western harmony singing... and no one has ever done it better! The original group included Roy Rogers, also known as 'The King Of The Cowboys,' whose earliest solo recordings are also included here. This set includes the original and greatest versions of western classics like of Way Out There, Tumbling Tumbleweeds, (Happy) Roving Cowboy, One More Ride, Empty Saddles, Cool Water, and So Long To The Red River Valley. It also features a full-length book and song-by-song analysis by Ranger Doug (Douglas B. Green of Riders In The Sky).

The last word on the first name in western group harmony! The Sons Of The Pioneers weren't cowboys and weren't even from the west, but they captured the awe and wonder of those who first rode the range ... and they did it in a dramatically new way, inventing western harmony, including trio yodels. The original Sons Of The Pioneers were an outstanding group in every way. The original group comprised Roy Rogers, Bob Nolan, and Tim Spencer. All three were exceptional vocalists, and Bob Nolan was a true poet. Tim Spencer and Roy Rogers were also fine songwriters. When they added the swinging guitar and fiddle of Hugh and Karl Farr, their sound was complete. This 6-CD set includes all of their recordings from 1934-1943. This set also includes all of Roy Rogers' earliest solo recordings from 1937 to 1942. In all, these six CDs include 182 songs, 52 of which are unissued takes or unissued recordings!
