Northern Ireland's Waylander return with 'Mac Tíre - Son of the Land', their sixth studio album and the latest chapter in a career spanning more than three decades. Since forming in 1993, the band has become a defining name in Pagan and Celtic Metal, blending extreme metal with traditional Irish folk influences before the genre gained recognition. Following landmark releases including 'Reawakening Pride Once Lost', 'The Light, the Dark and the Endless Knot', 'Honour Amongst Chaos', 'Kindred Spirits' and 'Ériú's Wheel', Waylander have refined a distinctive sound rooted in Ireland's musical heritage, mythology and ancient traditions. Unlike its predecessor, 'Mac Tíre - Son of the Land' is not a concept album. Each song explores aspects of Ireland's mythology, history, spirituality and landscape while celebrating the country's ancestral identity. The title derives from the Irish term Mac Tíre ('Son of the Land'), the traditional name for the wolf, symbolising Ireland's ancient wilderness and bond with nature. Musically, the album combines heavy, black, death, doom and thrash metal with Irish instrumentation including whistles, bouzouki, bodhrán, Uilleann pipes, fiddle and cello. Tracks such as 'Macha', 'Hy Brasil (Isle of Mists)', 'Sliabh Gullion', 'Our Once Wooded Isle', 'Mallachtaí' and the epic closer 'She of the Sorrows' draw on Celtic mythology, legendary figures and natural landmarks. Recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Dave Briggs at Stonecircle Studios with additional recording by Ashley Cleland, the album balances traditional instruments with the band's heavier arrangements. Having appeared at festivals including Bloodstock, Summer Breeze, Hammerfest, Cernunnos Pagan Fest, Dark Troll Festival and Ultima Ratio Festival, Waylander have built a loyal international following.
