A compilation of exclusive new tracks from an exciting array of artists, with 100% of the profits from the album going directly to the White Rose Foundation in Munich. The foundation not only commemorates the brave sacrifices of its original members who resisted the Nazis in World War 2, but promotes civic courage, individual responsibility, and robust education about the dangers of fascism and bigotry in present times.
Acts featured on the compilation include legendary director/composer John Carpenter, Modern English, EMF, Stabbing Westward, Nouvelle Vague, The Dead Milkmen, YORK, Tocadisco, opera star Daniel Gutmann, and others. Participating bands have a total of 6.5+ million montly Spotify listeners. Each act has selected a song to cover from the German New Wave genre (Neue Deutsche Welle, or NDW) for this album, from original artists such as D.A.F., Malaria!, Falco, Xmal Deutschland, Grauzone, Ideal, and others.
The original White Rose (Weiße Rose) was a German group composed primarily of school children who started a non-violent resistance movement against the Nazis. This was extremely dangerous and in the end, almost all of them were caught and executed. They remain beloved figures in German society today, particularly two siblings named Hans and Sophie Scholl; one member, Alexander Schmorell, was made a Saint in the Russian Orthodox Church. Several movies were made about the original group, including Sophie Scholl: The Final Days and The White Rose.
Ruprecht von Kaufmann has created a new work of art to serve as the cover for the album. Contributing to the liner notes are Maximilian Probst (grandson of a founding White Rose member), Alexei Uminsky (peace activist and priest who conducted the official funeral rites for Mikhail Gorbachev), Dr. Maren Gottschalk (Nelson Mandela biographer and WW2 historian), and Anselm Grün (spiritual author of 300+ titles, with 15+ million sold worldwide).
