This new collection presents Swahili popular music from the eastern coast of Africa, from Lamu, Mombasa, Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and the Comoros. Archive recordings from the 1920s-1980s supplemented by contemporary recordings of special interest. Vol 1 pays a tribute to Ikhwani Sxafaa, Zanzibar's (and probably Africa's) oldest music club, celebrating its centenary in 2005. Vol 2 features Mzuri's 1960s and 1970s recordings from the golden age of Mombasa taarab.
